Peterson named Outstanding Lifetime Volunteer

Pam Peterson

Meeker County 4-H volunteer Pam Peterson has been named the 2020 Minnesota 4-H Salute to Excellence Outstanding Lifetime Volunteer. Pam was chosen by a panel of judges from an outstanding list of nominees. She advances to the north central region judging, and then to the national level if selected.

Pam’s service to the 4-H youth development program represents a lifetime of commitment. Through her quiet and effective leadership style, Pam advocates for the best outcomes on behalf of young people. She has served as a key club leader and led county work on the Market Livestock Auction committee and as a poultry superintendent. Pam is committed to project and service-learning, and connecting young people to their communities. She created a partnership with a local township that resulted in youth undertaking service projects and the township providing financial support for educational activities. Pam is also willing to take on new experiences—she coached a successful Science of Agriculture Challenge team in the event’s first year.

The National 4-H Salute to Excellence Volunteer Awards recognize 4-H volunteers who demonstrate exemplary service to 4-H. Each year state 4-H programs select two exceptional individual volunteers through the 4-H Salute to Excellence Awards. The Outstanding Lifetime Volunteer Award is given to an individual who has spent 10 or more years as a 4-H volunteer while the Volunteer of the Year Award is given to an individual who has volunteered for 4-H less than 10 years.

The 4-H program would not be possible without volunteers. Through their service, volunteers grow personally, enrich the 4-H program and youth, and make our communities stronger.

Congratulations, Pam, and thank you to all our Minnesota 4-H volunteers!
