Summer Gardening Series: "A Walk Through the Gardening Season" at Pine City Community Garden

Here’s an opportunity to learn the basics and benefits of gardening and to sign-up for a garden plot if you want one. You can do all of this at the first of six classes in a Summer Gardening Series called “A Walk Through the Gardening Season”. It will be presented by the University of Minnesota Extension Pine County Master Gardeners and the Extension SNAP Educator on Thursday, April 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Pine County Courthouse Board Room.

At 6 p.m. a presentation called “Get Growing – A Beginners Guide to Growing Vegetables” will be presented by Pine County Master Gardeners Kim Metz and Barb Videen. That will be followed by a presentation on the “Physical and Mental Benefits of Gardening” by U of M Extension Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Educator Jimmie Johnson.

At 7 p.m. will be the Kick-Off Orientation for anyone who wants to sign-up for a plot at the new and improved Pine City Community Garden.  The garden located at Challeen Park at 10 S.E. 3rd St. in Pine City will have 32 (10 ft x 20 ft) plots at $15/season.  Water, hoses and a storage shed are on site.  Raised beds can also be rented for the season.  A reference library and mentors are available.

Additional Summer Gardening Series sessions will be held for the public on the following Monday evenings at 6 p.m. at the Pine City Community Garden on the following topics:
