Notes from Minnesota 4-H director Jennifer A. Skuza

Jennifer Skuza

Dear 4-H youth, families, and volunteers,

Summer is right around the corner. I want you to know that whatever is to come, 4-H Youth Development will deliver on our commitment to offering positive learning experiences to Minnesota’s young people and the adults who care about them.

We will deliver summer showcases

Our educators are partnering closely with local and state fair leaders. And we are currently testing alternative methods to showcase youth project learning, in the event that fairs cannot occur as usual. We trust the judgement of our fair boards and will support whatever decisions they need to make.

Many of you have contacted me in the past weeks. I value your candor about how important the 4-H experience is in your communities. Our team welcomes feedback from youth and families about your specific interests and needs for the summer. If you haven’t already, please reach out to a 4-H educator in your community. Your insight and collaboration are critical as we plan.

4-H at home

Many families are looking for new ways to engage with 4-H. We’ve launched a brand-new section on our website, 4-H at home, that highlights the growing list of statewide learning options we have available for youth of all ages. Keep checking this page as we update it with new opportunities. A few I’m especially excited about are:

Volunteers remain critical

I am especially heartened by those of you who are remaining connected to the youth in your clubs. What our youth are experiencing is unprecedented and the way we support them can make a difference in how they approach this challenging time. Join us for one or all of our upcoming volunteer training sessions to enhance your skills in this important work.

Grateful to partner with you,

Dr. Jennifer A. Skuza
Associate dean & Minnesota 4-H director

P.S. Are you serving others during this time of social distancing? Please share your stories with us so we can celebrate the impact of 4-H youth in our communities.
