Towers, Bridges, Farm Physics and 4-H!

On June 9th, Gerri Swiers challenged the Mahnomen Public Library summer reading program attendees to build the tallest free-standing tower or longest bridge out of only the materials supplied (pipe cleaners, rubber bands, spaghetti noodles, Popsicle sticks, straws, Styrofoam ball & about 3 feet of masking tape).  The tallest tower was built by Bailey & Olivia Halvorson and measured over 5 feet tall!
Monday & Tuesday morn ings in June, Gerri Swiers worked with youth kindergarten to 6th grade during Waubun Summer Recreation.  Topics included, bridges, towers, domes, animals, colors & capillary action.  Many of these kids attended the Mahnomen County Fair June 29th – July 1st.  How can 4-H entice these families to join and be a part of Mahnomen County 4-H?  Ideas & suggestions appreciated!
