Plan ahead to manage risk for fall activities: Hayrides, campfires and potlucks

Fall offers great opportunities for a variety of fun activities such as hayrides, campfires and potlucks. Utilize the risk management planning tool as a guide to ensure policies and practices are in place to help keep youth safe before activities and outings take place. Specific information from these policies and practices are linked below:

  • Hayrides are acceptable activities, but the safety practices described must be followed.
  • Campfires are acceptable activities only when following the safety strategies provided.
    • Bonfires are only acceptable activities when conducted by another group.
  • When holding a potluck follow the guidelines provided and review MN Statue 157.22 to ensure the safety of foods served.

Careful planning ensures risk is minimized while providing youth with fun and safe experiences. Questions? Talk with your 4-H program coordinator.
