LQA&E Training

What is LQA&E?
LQA&E stands for Livestock Quality Assurance and Ethics Training. It is a certification that is required for 4-H members to be eligible for participation in the MN State Fair 4-H Livestock Shows in the following species: Beef, Dairy, Goat, Lama, Poultry, Rabbit (including cavies), Sheep, and Swine. 4-Hers need to be certified in LQA&E every 3 years.  It is not required for county fair participation, but knowledge is always beneficial.

What is the difference between Level 1 & Level 2?

Level 1 is for 3-5th graders. Level 2 is for 9-12th graders. 6-8th graders can choose which level they want to take based on which is most appropriate for their age and interest level. You do not have to take Level 1 before taking Level 2. If you have already taken Level 1, then you should take Level 2 next. Level 1 includes sessions on ethics, nutrition, injections, proper housing facilities, handling and care of animals and more! Level 2 includes sessions on ethics, antibiotic issues, biosecurity, speaking up for animal agriculture, animal records, environmental stewardship, and food safety.
