Bringing an animal to the fair?

  • Animal Identification - May 15th Deadline - DON'T wait until the last day in case questions arise...
  • All cattle, swine, sheep and goats exhibited at the fair must have official identification (ID) that meets the requirements of both state and federal animal identification rules.    4-H tags and taggers are available at the Extension Office - you must pick them up!
  • Dog, horse & lama require pictures for identification - both side and front view. Have these on your phone or get a hard copy that can be scanned.
  • Know your animal's birthdate!
  • Poultry - *Ask for a certificate when purchasing to show that they originate from a hatchery or breeding flock that is classified under the National Poultry Improvement Plan (NPIP) as pullorum-typhoid clean; or be negative to a pullorum-typhoid test within 90 days prior to the opening date of the exhibition
  • Goats & Sheep - you will need an official Scrapie Tag - if you don't have one, Minnesota producers can obtain free official scrapie ear tags by filling out the online order form or calling Kelly Neisen (USDA) at 651-260-4570.
