During the weekend of February 8th - 9th 4 area youth participated in a Leadership opportunity lead by the Minnesota State 4-H Ambassadors called BLU (Building Leadership and Understanding). The conference took place at Castaway Club outside of Detroit Lakes, MN. This year’s conference was called Unmasking your Inner Leader focusing on the qualities that make someone a good leader. They learned about Strengths and Leadership styles including fellowship and introvert/extrovert leadership. They practiced goal setting and decision-making skills during this time. The youth that participated shared after the event that they enjoyed meeting new people from the Northwest region and met up with previous friends made at 4-H camp. One of their favorite activities was making their own Superhero based on what they view a hero as.  As a part of this leadership conference they do a Service-Learning Project, this year project was focused on youth in foster care. The participants learned about Foster care program and were asked to bring to items to donate as well as loss change to donate to the foster care system. Ask Olivia Halvorson, Isabella Schlick, Bailey Halvorson or Bridget Miller about their experiences at BLU.
