Garden Webinar Registration Now Open

Registration is now open for a series of six free gardening webinars.

University of Minnesota Extension educator, Robin Trott, will lead 60- to 90-minute weekly sessions on Zoom. The first webinar will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday, January 6, 2021, with more following each week on the same day and time.

Jan 6: Garden Planning at its Best

The months of the winter are upon us and so is the season of planning for your coming growing adventure. Learn how to select your site, prepare your beds, choose plants and make a fabulous garden you will enjoy for years to come. Start your gardening season off with the right plan.

  • Jan 13: Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Starting Seeds.  Always wanted to start your own seedlings, but weren’t sure how? Learn sowing strategies that will have you successfully starting your own plants indoors and out. Discover how temperature, light, growing medium and humidity can affect your seedlings and take home easy seed recommendations to get you started.
  • Jan 20: Gardening from the Ground Up.  A healthy garden starts with healthy soil. Discover the nitty gritty of soil health to start your garden off right. Learn how to read a soil test, what those test results mean, and what you can do to improve the quality of your soil.
  • Jan 27: Indestructible Houseplants.  Can houseplants really make your environment healthier? Come explore the health benefits of indoor gardening, indestructible plants you can add to your indoor environment, & some easy-care tips to keep your plants thriving. Bring your questions & ideas, & let’s talk plants!
  • Feb 3: Adding Whimsy to Your Garden.  Does gardening sometimes seem like all work and no play? This session takes a look at the lighter side of gardening. So, what is whimsy, botanically speaking? Whatever tickles the witty gardener’s fancy! From sundials to fairy gardens and everything in between, come enjoy this pictorial tour of several enchanted sites and develop some ideas for your own whimsical spot.
  • Feb 10: Tussy Mussies and Nosegays: The Language of Flowers.  Not only are flowers beautiful additions to our homes, weddings and special events, they also have different meanings attached to them. Flower language - or floriography - is the art of flower symbolism, which varies depending on the type, color and number of flowers given. Whatever you want to say, say it with flowers, after all there's a variety for practically every feeling you'd ever want to express.
