Keep youth safe when participating in winter activities

Wintertime provides great opportunities for 4-H clubs and groups to enjoy the outdoors through a variety of activities and outings. These activities may also involve varying levels of risk. Ensure 4-H members and volunteers stay safe by using the guidelines and policies provided. Note that special activities insurance must be taken out for some activities as they are not covered by annual group accident insurance (these are noted in the guidelines).  Work with your local Extension educator to secure this insurance.

  • Some activities are only allowed if conducted by another entity and some are not allowed.  Check for these two categories listed in the guidelines and policies before including them in the annual program plan.
  • Remember – all youth must be enrolled as 4-H members to participate in these activities and outings.

Utilize the risk management planning tool before the activity or outing occurs to help keep youth safe when participating in winter activities.  Contact your local Extension educator if you have any questions.
