2020 Southwest Animal Science Challenge

Dairy, general livestock, and horse enthusiasts – mark your calendar!  The tenth annual Southwest Animal Science Challenge will be held on Saturday, February 15, at the Wabasso Public School.  This is a day-long 4-H event that consists of project bowl competition, hands-on skill-a-thon stations, and project workshops led by industry-leading professionals. The day is open to participants of all ages, with two project bowl age divisions: junior (grades 3-8) and senior (grades 9+).  4-H’ers do not need to participate in project bowl to attend this event!  Individuals are welcome, and will select which project area (dairy, general livestock, or horse) they will participate in throughout the day.

The "round robin" project bowl portion will provide a great practice contest for teams to prepare for the regional competitions in March. Skill-a-thon stations will be designed to cover general knowledge of dairy, horse, and general livestock. Workshops will be presented on current “hot topics” in the horse and livestock industry, and will cover an array of topics for you to choose from.  The event is open to all MN 4-H project bowl teams of three to six 4-H members, as well as individuals wishing to attend for just the skill-a-thon stations and workshops.  Additional cross-county project bowl teams may be formed accordingly. More information will be available the beginning of January from your county Extension Office. The online registration form can be found at Please direct questions to Melissa Runck at, 507-836-6927.
